Connecting Compassion for Patients with Health Care Worker Wellbeing
Tuesday, July 29, 2025
2pm ET / 1pm CT / 12pm MT / 11am PT
Speaker: Kathy Saldana, CPXP | Patient Experience Advisor, Baptist Health Care
As a CPXP and recent cancer survivor, I encourage my fellow CPXPs to embrace patient suffering and take on the responsibility of fostering true compassion to reduce it. This presentation will explore: understanding who patients are, what they need, and how compassion can be shown; research on the benefits of compassionate care for patients and providers; and practical communication skills to avoid common pitfalls that increase suffering. By reconnecting healthcare workers with the “why” of their roles, we can enhance patient experience and staff well-being, proving that compassion benefits both giver and receiver.
Learning Objectives:
-Define the root meaning of "patient" and explain why knowing this term is central to meaningful patient encounters.
-Differentiate between empathy and compassion and know the role of both in providing patient encounters that reduce suffering.
