Thursday, July 10, 2025

2pm ET / 1pm CT / 12pm MT / 11am PT

Debbie Garrett, Program Coordinator, Volunteer Services and Special Events, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Metrics are essential for volunteer leaders to demonstrate program value, though selecting and using the right data can be challenging. This session will equip leaders with the knowledge to collect and use metrics that showcase the impact of volunteer programs. Attendees will learn why metrics matter, what data to track, collection methods (from low-tech to advanced), and how to tell compelling stories with the data. The presenter will demonstrate live data collection, offering practical steps that can be immediately applied to enhance volunteer programs.

Learning Objectives

• Explain why metrics are important. They prove volunteers’ value to the organization, increase retention, and show a positive impact on the patient-family experience.

• Discover different ways to collect data, from simple manual tick marks on a piece of paper to collecting it in different electronic forms.

• Summarize what to do with the data, who needs to see it, and how to get it in front of them.
